My MacBook is probably one of my more treasured items. It sounds a little bit messed up, but in reality, my computer is often my gateway to the world. I communicate with friends, work, write, learn, and am entertained by this little hunk of metal. So for me, a good computer was an investment. Something well-made would last longer, and give me less problems in the long run. I’ll admit, it is definitely pleasing to look at.
Now I’m not going to sit here and write about all the ways a MacBook is better than other computers. People like different things for different reasons. But if you are interested in these, and want to save money, keep on reading!
One of the reasons these computers are so infamous is their price. Some say it’s worth every cent, others don’t. But I think we can all agree that a discount will always come in handy. Although its not a huge discount, in a purchase this big, every dollar will help. My first tip is very simple: Get your MacBook at BHPhotoVideo.com.
TIP 1: This gem of a site actually focuses on college students, primarily those who major in filmography and photography. They sell all sorts of electronics, from computers, to DSLRs, to microphones and everything in between. The good thing is that you don’t need to be a college student to purchase anything! I purchased my computer here more than two years ago, and received not only a great product, but a great discount, too. If you live near the New York area, you could actually go and pick up your computer in person.
The new touch-bar MacBooks are just as expensive here as they are on the Apple website, but it’s likely due to the fact that they have just been released. I highly recommend the model without the touch-bar. The 13” actually starts over $100 less than Apple’s retail price, at $1,399 as opposed to $1,499.
I know it’s not a huge discount, but you’re literally keeping $100 in your pocket just by shopping elsewhere! If you’re not in a hurry, I highly encourage you to hold off until the holiday season. I got my MacBook, a newly released (at the time) Retina model for $1,250 as opposed to $1,500. Shipping was free, so I ended up paying $250 less for the same exact computer. Again, this was just by shopping somewhere else at the right time.
TIP 2: My second piece of advice if to check out Apple’s Certified Refurbished offers. I know a lot of people are quite hesitant about making such a big purchase on an item that isn’t completely ‘New’, but in a lot of cases these computers haven’t even been used. You ever wonder what happens to returned MacBooks that are perfectly brand new? They get refurbished and sold for 15% less than the regular retail price. Not a bad deal at all, especially when you consider these computers go through an extensive certification process before going up for sale. They also come with a 1-Year Warranty. I don’t even think my computer came with a warranty that long.
I hope this post makes your dream computer more achievable!
