Hey Friends!
Today I am here with a very special article. I am here to tell you about my experience making making money from home with Shipt! I’ve made $38 in around an hour an a half thanks to Shipt! Now it might not sound like a lot, but I think that equals out to a rate of about $24 per hour. And what makes it even better is that the job itself is super easy, engaging, and not boring whatsoever. Keep reading to learn how YOU can make money through Shipt!
If you’ve heard of Instacart, then it’s likely that you’ve heard of Shipt. If you haven’t, it’s okay! They’re a relatively new grocery delivery service recently acquired by Target, so this is really the best time to get on board as it’s still relatively unknown (in most areas). The Shipt application process is fairly easy (I’ll cover that more in-depth in another post), and making money with them is even easier. Once you’re approved to work for them, you’ll receive a sort of “Welcome Package” in the mail. In it, you’ll have a Shipt T-Shirt and a Shipt credit card that you’ll use to pay for your orders.
How to start making money!
Let me start by saying that the amount of money you can make really varies by area. If you live in a big city where Shipt is well-established, you are LUCKY! I’ve seen people make upwards of $1,000 a WEEK by doing this. However, making this much requires a lot of work. Then you have shoppers like me that really just do it on the side. I’m still doing my first week, so I will have to keep you guys updated on my weekly total. Make sure you join the Facebook page so you can keep up!
Okay, so the big thing that makes Shipt hot right now, especially in lesser known areas, in their PROMO PAY. This basically takes place when there’s not enough shoppers in your area, and unclaimed orders often go into Promo Pay. Shipt will add an additional incentive for people to take the order. The most I have seen an order go into Promo Pay is $25. Which means, you now make an extra $25 in addition to whatever you get paid for the order.
Let’s do some math!
$10 Shop Pay (Average) + $25 Promo Pay = $35
Keep in mind that this is the pre-tip amount. It’s really hard to tell which customers will tip well, but even if they don’t, That $35 dollar pay is very good compensation for a shop that most likely will take you less than an hour to make and deliver. The more you shop, the faster you’ll get at it. Trust me, I’m on shop six or seven and I’m doing whole carts in about 20-25 minutes.
How to make even MORE money!
Once you complete your firsts ten shops, you will then be able to do double or even triple shops. This basically means you can layer your orders so that you can shop for up to three orders at a time. This is where the real money is. I can’t wait till my area has enough orders to actually stack them. It’s gonna be a good day!
The cons:
If I’m being honest, there are a couple of things that I dislike about Shipt. The first thing is that as of now, they are only partnered with my local Target stores. I’ve yet to do a shop at the Target closest to me. Most shops are 20+ miles round trip and I’m not sure if it’s worth the wear and tear and my car. In places like Florida they’re partnered with tons of other grocery chains, and I hope that my city will be like that sometime soon.
The last thing is the low order volume. This place can be really dead! On my first day there were only two orders, and both of those were snagged as soon as they came up. I was only able to make my first $38 because I was lucky and snagged a promo order with a very kind customer who tipped me very well for my time.
My general thoughts:
If you are looking for a side hustle that doesn’t do as much wear and tear on your car and you want to make your own hours, I would definitely encourage you to sign up with Shipt. It’s still early on in the company’s career that you can make decent money because their employee base isn’t saturated with people trying to dip their hands into the pie. It’s also incredibly fun to shop with someone else’s money. I did a couple of orders a few days before Christmas and had an absolute blast.
